The city of Hijaz in the western Saudi Arabia region of Madinah, where Hazrat Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) is blessed. This city is the second most holy city in Islam. The population of the city according to the 2004 census is 9 lakh 18 thousand 889. The old name of the city was Yasirb, but after the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) it was given the name Madin al-Nabi Allah, after that it became Madina. It is based on Islam.

History:

Earlier, the city of Islam was called Madina Yasirb. It was an important trading town and the idolaters used to do pilgrimage every year and the idol of both cities was "Manat". This city was also the center of Arab Jews.
In the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) there were two prominent tribes in the city of Madinah, besides the Banu Awas and Banu Khazraj. The Jewish tribes included Banu-qanqa'ah, Benu-Nazir, Benu-Sidah, Benu-Harith, Benu-Jashm, Benu-Najar and Benu-Qurayza.
There was a 120-year-long war between the powerful tribes of Bannu Aus and Bin Khazraj from the 610s.

Migration to Medina 622 AD:

In 622, Prophet Muhammad and his associates emigrated to Medina, fed up with the atrocities of the disbelievers of Mecca. Upon the arrival of the Prophet, the name of Madinah al-Nabi became known and it became the capital of the first Islamic state.
