- In 1924 George Mallory and Andrew Irvine tried to mount it, both of them unable to return.
- In 1934 he was tried by a British Maurice Wilson, but was killed.
- In 1938 a British expedition reached 27,000 feet but had to return due to bad weather.
- In 1951 a British expedition surveyed Mount Everest.
- In 1952 two hundred campaigns tried to overtake him but he had to return due to bad weather.
- It was taken over in the British campaign in 1953.
- In 1996, 15 people were killed while climbing it.
- In 2005 a French Eurocopter helicopter landed on it and came down for several minutes.
- Nepali hiking officials say Kami Rita Sharpa, a 49-year-old Nepalese citizen, has set a new world record for the 23rd time as the world's highest peak Mount Everest.
