It is located on the border of Nepal and China in the Himalayan mountains of Pakistan. Its height is 8848 meters or 29028 feet. It was first headlined on May 29, 1953 by Edmund Hillary and Tanzing Norgay. Nazir Sabir was the first Pakistani to head it. The Nepalese name of Mount Everest is Sagarmatha.


Climbing date

  • In 1924 George Mallory and Andrew Irvine tried to mount it, both of them unable to return.
  • In 1934 he was tried by a British Maurice Wilson, but was killed.
  • In 1938 a British expedition reached 27,000 feet but had to return due to bad weather.
  • In 1951 a British expedition surveyed Mount Everest.
  • In 1952 two hundred campaigns tried to overtake him but he had to return due to bad weather.

  • In 1996, 15 people were killed while climbing it.
  • In 2005 a French Eurocopter helicopter landed on it and came down for several minutes.
  • Nepali hiking officials say Kami Rita Sharpa, a 49-year-old Nepalese citizen, has set a new world record for the 23rd time as the world's highest peak Mount Everest.
